Public Statement on GLBT Rights and Same-Sex Marriage
adopted December 19, 2004

It is a fundamental principle of Humanism and implicit in Jewish tradition to affirm the dignity and equal rights of all people. Kahal B’raira is keenly aware of the injustices done by religious and secular laws that discriminate against minorities. We promote the freedom, equality, and empowerment of all people, including those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender (GLBT). We welcome GLBT individuals and families to our congregation.

Kahal B’raira advocates for the full and equal legal status of GLBT individuals and their families. Such equality extends to the civil rights and responsibilities of liberty, privacy, employment, residency, and citizenship, as well as rights relating to marriage and divorce, child custody and adoption, family insurance coverage, medical decisions and visitation, and inheritance and survivor benefits.
