The Question of "Truth"
Please join Brandeis University philosophy professor, Jorah Dannenberg, in an engaging discussion about living alongside people with radically different moral and political convictions. We often react to factual disagreements by criticizing those with whom we disagree for being irrational, forgetting that we, too, may be guilty of this kind of error. Using philosophical reasoning--a structured thinking process related to Talmudic argument--Professor Dannenberg will unpack an example about two friends in a moral bind, to illuminate philosophical puzzles concerning the relationship we have to our own evidence on the one hand and our moral ideals and values on the other. We will use this as a launching point for thinking together about how we may use analytical tools to navigate both moral and political discussions these days.

NOTE: This program will focus on the philosophical structure of reasoning, not political ideology.
